Lady Captain Fiona held her Prize Days on Thursday 4 and Saturday 6 July this year. There was a large entry of 83 players on Day 1 and we all enjoyed beautiful weather. Lady Captain greeted all the ladies with a “goodie bag” full of lovely treats and the pro shop staff were on hand to sort out any ”insufficient funds” problems!

We were thrilled to be greeted at the Halfway House by Darragh (Lady Captain’s charming son) who poured the prosecco and served the sausages etc. Daragh listened to all the “hard luck” and the “what might have been” stories!! There was a varied mixture of scores recorded but everybody thoroughly enjoyed a very pleasant day.

And so, we progressed to Day 2 with an entry of 78 and for some there was the promised land and for others there was just the promised rough! But at the end of the day the good golf prevailed and Elizabeth O’Dwyer proved to be a very worthy and popular winner with a score of 70pts.

Following on from a lovely meal served by Danny and his staff, Lady Captain spoke briefly, thanking all present for making her 2 days so memorable. She thanked her entire committee for all their commitment and then presented the prizes. The Lady Captain’s Prize Winner for 2019, Elizabeth, then spoke eloquently about the condition of the course and the friendship and fun with her playing partners and said that she will wear her prize with pride and many fond memories of a wonderful event.

The PLAY IN PINK  4ball was played on Thursday 20 June to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research.

It was a very successful and enjoyable day raising  €5,316 for the charity.

The success was all due to the Members and their guests who generously sponsored the 18 holes and donated such lovely gifts for our raffle. All these gifts were beautifully  arranged into hampers by Marion.

The timesheet was almost full with lady Members and their guests. Well done to the winers of the competition…Gertie & Alma who had a great score of 42 points.

This year we had 1 hour on the Time Sheet for men’s 9 hole singles, but unfortunately the weather changed in the evening and very heavy rain reduced the number of men playing. A big thank you to all the men who took part in the competition and sponsored holes, which helped to boost the takings for the charity and we hope to see many more men involved next year.

Many thanks to the small but hard working committee who gave of their time to prepare the Clubhouse the previous evening and to all those who helped on the day

We look forward to “PLAY in PINK” day next year.

There was just one match this weekend, and unfortunately, the Minor Cup Team (22-27) were knocked out after a great run, getting to the 4th round – which was no mean feat.

Over the previous rounds they were magnificent;   winning really tough matches, battling a mini hurricane in Deerpark and continuous rain last Sunday in Killeen Castle. However, sadly it has come to an end. But note….this team went further than any other in The Island this year so well done to all the players and subs:  Stella Geraghty, Bev Killen, Darina Flynn, Esther Murray, Ethna McFerran, Emer Kelleher, Avril Mullock, Mary Romeri, Margaret O’Neill, Marjorie Kinsella, Carmel O’Brien, Gwen Smillie, Noelle Hurley and Pauline Atkinson…great team effort!

Finally… to Capt. Ann Short who guided the team throughout with her inspirational encouragement, Gif’s and little poems… all of which were much appreciated  by the team. Well done Ann!
